Organizing A Plant nursery Closet
When I began designing our baby'south nursery, my first priority was maximizing storage infinite. This bedroom isn't large, so I knew I needed to become a footling creative at creating storage infinite. (If there's 1 affair I've learned, information technology's that babies may exist tiny but they need a lot of stuff!)
Since this chamber is pretty minor, I turned my attending to the closet as a prime opportunity to add together storage. Adding our white dresser inside the closet has been such a good decision, so when Homemakers Furniture asked me to share more about the organizing systems I'k using in the nursery, it was an easy 'yep'. The dresser I purchased from them is the star of the show in terms of organizing our nursery!
i | Remove Cupboard Doors To Maximize Square Footage
One of the best ways to proceeds square footage in a small nursery is by removing the cupboard doors. Hanging baby dress from the single rod would leave a lot of wasted infinite underneath. Plus, who really has time to hang all of those tiny apparel?! Trust me, y'all desire a lot of closed storage to comprise all of the baby things.
Removing the cupboard doors will give you lot space to slide in a full-size dresser. The boosted drawers add a ton of storage for babe dress and supplies, and the summit of the dresser makes the perfect irresolute table.
Measure the width of your closet earlier you become dresser shopping so you know what size will work in your infinite. I highly recommend leaving just enough extra space for a Diaper Genie to fit abreast the dresser.
Nigh closet doors can be removed past unscrewing a couple screws. Tape a plastic baggie with the screws and whatsoever other hardware to the doors and shop them in your basement so you can put them back in place down the road.
2 | Use A Dresser Equally A Changing Tabular array
There are some gorgeous changing tables out there, but I didn't really have room to add together another slice of piece of furniture to our minor nursery. So I opted to use a dresser that could double equally a changing tabular array. Using a dresser every bit a changing tabular array will save space if you lot are besides working with a small room.
If you are thinking about using a dresser every bit a changing table, expect for one that isat least 18 inches deep. This will allow plenty room for a changing pad to sit safely on tiptop. I establish this pretty Sauder Shoal Creek Dresser at Homemakers Furniture and it was just the right size!
Pro Tip: Keep a small measuring record in your purse to quickly measure out furniture in the shop. If shopping online, always double-check the product dimensions before ordering.
Well-nigh changing pads have a non-slip grip surface on the bottom. Since you lot should never leave your baby unattended on the changing pad, the non-slip grip is enough to hold it in identify. Just you could also secure the pad with a few velcro Command strips, or buy a wooden dresser topper with compartments designed to hold the changing pad and diapering supplies.
3 | Organize Daily Necessities Inside Easy Reach
When organizing a nursery closet, information technology'south important to strategically identify high-use items within piece of cake accomplish. 1 of your hands will be holding your baby on the changing pad at all times, so all supplies need to be inside an arm'southward achieve.
To the right of the changing pad, I go along a container of wipes and a repurposed jar that holds hand sanitizer, lotion, and balms. A tiered basket to the left of the changing pad holds a handful of diapers, hair bows and a few footling toys to entertain my squirmy baby.
Consider using part of a top dresser drawer for storing extra diapers (considering yous can never have likewise many!) along with medicines and hygiene items.
Too, don't overlook the placement of a trash bin or Diaper Genie! At that place was merely enough room to the right of our dresser to skid in a Diaper Genie and I'm so thankful we have it there.
four | Categorize Clothing Into Labeled Drawers
The dazzler of all of these large dresser drawers under the irresolute table is that it makes outfit changes quick! Organize baby apparel within the drawers, strategically placing everyday dress and pajamas inside easiest achieve.
I made simple drawer dividers to neatly organize all of the tiny baby dress in rows. The drawer dividers will be easy to adjust every bit Chloe's wearable gets larger. I also added pocket-sized labels inside each drawer so we know exactly where everything belongs.
Accept an in-depth tour of every single drawer of our organized nursery dresser in this weblog post. You lot'll see how I organized baby wearing apparel for easy grabbing and how I used labels and DIY drawer dividers to continue everything slap-up and tidy.
5 | Designate A Bin For Outgrown Clothing Storage
Long-term, it's best to neatly organize outgrown wearable in plastic storage tubs or sell/donate them. Simply when you come beyond likewise-pocket-size apparel equally yous're dressing your baby, it's really nice to take a spot to stash them then they don't end up right dorsum in the dresser drawer taking up infinite.
I lined the existing closet shelf with storage bins and labeled i specifically for outgrown wearable. That'due south where I toss anything that's too pocket-size. Once that bin fills upwards, I sort through it and motility those clothes to storage tubs.
vi | Shop Larger Sizes Of Habiliment In A User-friendly Place
I knew babies grew fast, but human beingdo they ever! I'k constantly earthworks out larger sizes of habiliment. I highly recommend designating a dresser drawer or bin on the closet shelf for holding clothes one size bigger than your baby is currently wearing.
There was plenty room in our dresser to designate a bottom drawer for the larger sizes of clothes that we received from infant showers into one of the bottom drawers. They are categorized by size and I can quickly grab the next size when it'south time to move those bigger clothes into the upper drawers.
Having larger vesture right here in the closet is much more convenient than having to comb through storage tubs in the basement. I think if Chloe's larger clothes weren't then convenient to grab, I'd procrastinate getting them out and she'd miss the opportunity to habiliment some of them.
I've likewise found myself sifting through this drawer often to get an idea of what types of clothing she could still apply in those larger sizes (extra handy if Grandma is going to garage sales and wants to know what clothes to expect for;) ).
7 | Shop Overflow Baby Supplies In Labeled Bins
By adding this dresser inside our nursery closet, I was able to create plenty storage space to concord all of the babe items nosotros use every mean solar day with room to spare for surplus items. Now that'southward what I call an organizing win!
Since buying diapers and wipes in majority makes a lot of financial sense and you might every bit well since babies become through so many, you'll desire to programme for where to store them all. I buy ours at Sam'south Club and immediately accept them out of their boxes when I get abode.
One of the bottom dresser drawers holds actress sleeves of diapers and extra packs of wipes. This makes information technology easy to restock the changing station on summit of the dresser as well as the diaper changing caddy in our living room and the stash at daycare.
The bins on the closet shelf also store extra supplies, primarily diapers and wipes. One of the bins stores toys from baby showers and Christmas that Chloe is still as well immature to play with.
8 | Add together A Hamper & Hooks To Keep Clothes Off The Floor
Hooks are super helpful for hanging towels, pajamas and clothing so it doesn't finish upwards in piles on the floor. Consider hanging hooks low and so your kid will be able to reach them when they go a little bigger.
I added hooks to the right of the closet for Chloe's towel to dry in between baths. I also have a few of my favorite dresses displayed here for now because I merely can't stand to pack them away!
(Past the way, aren't those lilliputian owl pictures beautiful?! I've been looking for something small-scale to add to this little side wall of the closet and I snatched these cute frames up during a visit to Homemakers Furniture.)
9 | Use Baskets To Corral Blankets, Linens, Towels & Toys
Although these baskets aren't technically inside the nursery closet, they are worth mentioning considering they are primal to keeping things organized.
I've had that pink basket in here for a while now and it's worked so well for containing little toys and blankets. I found the neutral/white basket at Homemakers Furniture and couldn't resist – i tin can never have as well many baskets! Afterward all, babies dear to dump things out of them ;).
Bully Dressers To Apply As Changing Tables
Considering using a dresser as a changing table? This is a dandy way to save infinite in a minor plant nursery.
Before you go dresser shopping, measure the width of your space. You'll also want to look for dressers that are deep enough to fit a changing pad on pinnacle (the dresser I bought is 18 inches deep which is perfect!).
Hither are a few of my favorite dressers from Homemakers Article of furniture that would work wonderfully equally changing tables:
- Sauder Shoal Creek Dresser (I accept this one in white)
